Everything about this place is quality and well worth the investment. The meals in the restaurant and "Bistro" cafe are freshly prepared and delicious. The facility provides several events and trips everyday which are posted and provided in a monthly calendar to residents are aware and can sign up. As sons and a daughter, we were comforted to know that Smith Crossing availability of three tiers of care (plus rehab) readily available and daily check in by the staff on well-being gave us the reassurance he was never left alone. The apartment and grounds are beautiful and so very well kept while residents receive the highest level of care. Smith Crossing completely turned his (and ours) life around. Following the passing of his wife and our mother of 52 years and a hip injury, we were extremely concerned that he would not heal, integrate back into society nor make any new friends. My father had 5 wonderful years living in independent living. Smith Crossing has been a blessing to our family. It is much better for your loved one to have one person taking care of only them and it is much much less money. They hide this portion of the facility from anyone who is touring the facility for their loved one. If you are considering this facility make them show you the skilled unit so you can see for yourself. Don't let their nice furniture and beautiful wallpaper fool you. The Smith Crossing looks beautiful but, that is where all their money goes, into decorating and not the care of the residents. The guy who runs this place said that he follows what is mandated by the state and nothing more. Only 1 aid for every 16 residents! My mom died with bedsores all over her backside. All the residents waited for everything, to be fed, bathed, to used the bathroom, or be put to bed. There was only 1 nurses aid for every 16 residents. She started in the assisted living and eventually was forced into the the skilled unit, which was about $13,000 a month. Everything was fine until she needed help with daily care. My mother lived in the Smith Crossing for several years. Keep your family member in their home and hire a caregiver. The facility has had 2 substantiated complaints reported in the last 3 years that resulted in a citation. This facility has been given 23 fines by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for a total of $127,888.74.
